Politics of Greece takes places under the parliamentary representative democratic republic. This means that the Prime Minister of Greece is the head of the government. Greece follows a multi-party system and the legislative power lies with the Hellenic parliament and the government. The judiciary, however, is independent of the executive and the legislature. The President is responsible for some executive and legislative functions whereas the Prime Minister and the cabinet play an important role in the electoral process. Voting in Greece is not enforced, but it is compulsory nonetheless.

Economy in Greece

The economy of Greece is the forty-sixth largest in the world with a nominal GDP of $194.851 billion per annum. In 2015, Greece was the fifteenth largest economy in the EU which consists of 28 members. The service sector in Greece contributes most to its economic value as it 82.8% and the industrial sector being 13.3%.

Tourism and shipping also contribute to the country with 30 million arrivals last year (2016). Its economy is also classified as an advanced high-income economy and is one of the founding members of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and the BSEC (Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation).

Greek undertook the euro as their currency in exchange for their former drachma. Greece is also a member of the International Monetary Fund and of the World Trade Organization.

Schools in Greece

The education system in Greece is divided into 3 levels, namely, primary, which involves kindergarten for 1-2 years and primary school which is called dimotiko, for 6 years, secondary. This includes lower secondary education which lasts for 3 years. After completing primary and secondary schools pupils can enroll for tertiary schools which are called Lykeion (academically oriented high schools) or vocational training. Higher studies are also provided by specialized schools. All the levels of education are monitored by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious affairs, The curriculum is provided by the ministry of state, giving it centralized control.

Weather in Greece

The weather in Greece differs across different areas, most people spend their summer in Greece and leave with the impressions that the weather is likewise all year round. The fall brings with it rains and slight chill, and in the spring the weather is as pleasant as you’d want it to be on a perfect day. In the north due to the influence of the mountains the weather tends to a bit extreme, and ice tends to be a everyday feature in the landscape. Summers however are hot and dry, but if you move towards the mountains you’ll find temperature drop. As far as the coastal areas are concerned they experience a milder winter, but the high humidity combined with the strong coastal wind make the winter seem harsher than then those compared to the mountains.
